Connecting Communities: The National Databank

In our rapidly evolving digital landscape, access to the internet is no longer a luxury but a necessity. Yet, millions of households across the UK find themselves on the wrong side of the digital divide, unable to afford internet connectivity. This issue disproportionately affects vulnerable individuals, exacerbating existing inequalities. At Make More, we believe that everyone deserves equal access to the digital world. That’s why we’re proud to have partnered with Good Things Foundation and the National Databank – a revolutionary initiative aimed at bridging the gap in internet accessibility and empowering communities across the UK by providing free mobile SIM cards for people who need internet connectivity.

Addressing the Digital Divide

The statistics paint a stark picture: 2.5 million households in the UK struggle to afford internet access, and 1 in 14 households have no home internet access at all. This lack of connectivity not only hinders individuals’ ability to access essential services but also isolates them from opportunities for social and economic advancement.

Unlocking Internet Connectivity

The National Databank operates on a simple yet powerful premise – to provide free mobile SIM cards to those in need of internet connectivity. Much like a food bank, the National Databank distributes these SIM cards through a network of over 1,600 organisations across the UK. These organisations, known as members of the National Digital Inclusion Network, play a vital role in identifying and supporting individuals experiencing data poverty or living on a low income within their communities.

How It Works:

Individuals facing data poverty or financial constraints can visit their local National Databank location to receive a free mobile SIM card, kindly provided by Virgin Media O2, Vodafone, and Three. Enabling them to stay connected with loved ones, access essential services, and seize new opportunities.

Empowering Communities, One Connection at a Time:

At Make More, we are committed to building a more inclusive and connected society. Through the National Databank, we strive to empower communities by breaking down barriers to internet access and fostering digital inclusion for all. Together, let’s harness the power of connectivity to create a brighter, more equitable future for every individual across the UK.
