Exciting News: We've Moved to The Walsall Hub!

We are thrilled to announce that we’ve moved to a new home! Our office has now relocated to The Walsall Hub, a building rich with history and community spirit. Not only does it serve as a new base for our team, but it is also a hub for other local community organisations, making it the perfect place for us to continue our mission of providing STEM initiatives, digital support services, and wellness support.

A Building with a Rich History

The Walsall Hub has a fascinating story. Originally built at the end of the 19th century, it was officially opened in 1902 by Sir William Booth, the founder of The Salvation Army. Sir William Booth lived just a short distance away from the building in Walsall town centre, adding a personal touch to this iconic location.

The building comprises two main structures: the Barracks and the School buildings. These were not just simple structures; they played a significant role in the community, particularly during both World Wars. The Salvation Army used the building for various purposes up until 2019, after which the building fell into disrepair.

However, the story doesn’t end there. In 2019, the building was purchased by local Walsall residents, Kevin and Ellen Edwards, who saw the potential in restoring this historic site and bringing it back to life as The Walsall Hub. We’re excited to be part of this new chapter in its history!

The Salvation Army's Legacy

William Booth

Before it became The Walsall Hub, the building was home to The Salvation Army, a global humanitarian organisation founded by William Booth in 1865. The Salvation Army has touched millions of lives worldwide through its charitable work, from running homeless shelters to providing disaster relief. This building, which served as a Salvation Army Barracks, was the heart of the local community, providing a space for Sunday school meetings, gatherings, and events. It’s inspiring to know that we are now part of a space with such a deep-rooted legacy of service to others.

The Walsall Hub Today

Today, The Walsall Hub is a vibrant, restored space that serves as a place for local businesses, community organisations, and residents to connect, collaborate, and grow. It’s no longer just a historical building—it’s a thriving hub for innovation, learning, and support. The Hub offers office rental spaces and meeting room hire, providing an ideal environment for businesses and organisations like ours to flourish.

As part of its mission, The Walsall Hub partners with community interest companies (CICs), private businesses, and other local organisations to drive positive change in the area. These collaborations create opportunities for local businesses and entrepreneurs, provide spaces for events and learning, and foster a sense of community pride. It’s all about revitalising Walsall, one project at a time, and we’re excited to contribute to that vision.

During the renovation of the building, a number of fascinating objects were discovered, many of which were remarkably well-preserved. Among the items found were Salvation Army collection tins, old editions of The War Cry (the Salvation Army’s publication), and even wooden pew chairs. These objects offer a glimpse into the history of the building, and we’re thrilled to be part of its future.

Looking Ahead

The Walsall Hub is the perfect place for us to continue our work, providing not only STEM support but also digital services and wellness support to the community. We look forward to collaborating with other local organisations and continuing to make a positive impact in Walsall.
